East Asia, China, Republic Era, ca. 20th century CE. An ornamental yellow-brown Shoushan stone carved in the openwork form of a dragon or pixiu. Shoushan stone, the most famous agalmatolite in China, is mined in the Shoushan village in northern Fujian and has been used for carvings since the 5th century CE. Size: 5" L x 0.6" W x 2.5" H (12.7 cm x 1.5 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: private New Orleans, Louisiana, USA collection, acquired 1990s in the Caribbean
