Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An antique hand carved wood and bone decorative tabletop screen comprised of 4 folding panels with brass hinges. The bone is set into the wood frame using a mortise and tenon construction and some light adhesive stabilizer. The bone is etched and openwork carved with vines and auspicious symbols – including dragons and phoenix, while the main panels depict a man visiting a small shrine. Miniature screens such as this were artistic pieces that scholars and artists used for ornamentation, and sometimes they provided protection to their work from wind or dust. Size: 13.6" L x 0.75" W x 14.2" H (34.5 cm x 1.9 cm x 36.1 cm)
