East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden chopstick holder of a cylindrical form with an openwork body and two silver (70%) caps. The wooden body is illustrated with a beautiful scene replete with stylized mammalian and avian figures existing harmoniously within a garden filled with foliate and arboreal motifs. The top cap has an octagonal body with an incised cap and suspension loop, and the lower cap has a pair of thinly-incised grooves. A wonderful example from Qing-era China!
