Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE. A hand-carved wooden reliquary figure of an elderly man who wears distinguishing garments and sits upon an integral circular platform. The figure holds his right hand out as if grasping a cane or staff and places his other hand upon his bent knee. His red robe is lined with black trim bearing petite yellow spots and displays a rectangular pendant just above his somewhat portly belly. His mustachioed face features heavy-lidded eyes beneath thin brows, a crested nose, and tall ears, all beneath a broad courtier's hat. A narrow cavity in the back is meant to hold votive offerings or prayer scrolls and is covered with a rectangular wooden panel. Size: 4.375" W x 9.4" H (11.1 cm x 23.9 cm)
