Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE. A beautiful piece of pale green jade, with a few flashes of deep blue green in the stone, carved into an elongated oval form depicting animals on a leaf. Its openwork form gives it a lace-like quality, especially on the side with the animals - a dragon or possibly chimera figure, a cat, and a rat, with different kinds of balls that look like seeds or pumpkins scattered throughout the scene. Flip the stone over, and the other side depicts a large leaf with sinuous lines moving down its surface, forming a curving cross with a drilled hole in its center. The back of the body of the dragon/chimera figure - specifically its curving, scaled tail - is also carved into this side. The different layers of the leaf have been carved to be three-dimensional, so they appear to lay over one another. A truly intricate and gorgeous piece of carving! Size: 1.95" W x 3.5" H (5 cm x 8.9 cm); 5.05" H (12.8 cm) on included custom stand.
