Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE. A pretty, carved wooden sculpture painted with red and gold lacquer, depicting a solemn, seated meditative figure. The figure sits cross-legged upon a lotus throne with his hands palms upward in his lap in the Dhyana Mudra. This is a gesture of meditation meant to improve concentration and encourage healing. The figure is beautifully depicted, with its face peaceful and its eyes downcast. The figure has fantastic details, with new ones to notice every time you look at it: the clothing that is decorated with gold dots on its red borders; the throne's leaves that are impressively three-dimensional and even; and the crown that has tiny incised lines to give it a lifelike texture. Size: 3.6" L x 4.3" W x 10.8" H (9.1 cm x 10.9 cm x 27.4 cm)
