Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE. A huge, tripartite bronze brazier, decorated with brightly colored cloisonne enamel. The lower part is a tall, openwork structure, supported by three legs topped by the heads of mythological animals. Above that sits a hexagonal bowl, supported by two legs in the form of leaping dragons whose tails rest upon the base and whose heads form framing flourishes to either side of the open mouth. The third part of the brazier is a rounded lid capped by a Qilin, a chimera with a horn that is often compared to the western concept of a unicorn. Around the body - especially the lower part of the body - are beautiful floral and geometric motifs done in cloisonne enamel, mainly red, blue, and green, with some pink, yellow, and lavender. Size: 14.5" W x 23.375" H (36.8 cm x 59.4 cm)
