Description:

East Asia, China, Neolithic Period, ca. 3000 to 2000 BCE. A lovely ceramic jug decorated with a series of concentric circular stripes across the globular body and cylindrical neck. The painted motifs in chocolate and crimson hues are shown atop a cream ground, and the neck has a dark-red ground on which the circular adornments are presented. The lower body tapers dramatically to a flat base, and a small lug handle arches between the neck and shoulder. Size: 7" W x 8.25" H (17.8 cm x 21 cm).

  • Condition: Professionally repaired from multiple large pieces with some resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to rim, neck, body, and base, with fading to some areas of original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
