Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A mold-made pottery male attendant figure holding a rectangular object, perhaps a musical instrument, in his right arm and adorned in liberal remains of green, orange, white, black, and red pigments. Standing on a hexagonal plinth, the figure wears a tall, domed cap and an ankle-length robe tied at the waist as his left arm falls to his side. Size: 4.8" W x 16.5" H (12.2 cm x 41.9 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.

  • Condition: Back corner of base repaired with some chipping and minor losses along visible break lines. Chipping to collar of garment with restoration where separately molded head was inserted. Light surface wear as shown, commensurate with age. Repainting to face and along some break lines. Otherwise, nice with liberal remains of glaze. TL holes to base and back of head under hat.
