Description:

China, Ming Dynasty, 16th century CE. This is a cast bronze statue of a bodhisattva who in Chinese is known as Quan Yin. She has the traditional wide chest, narrow waist, and broad forehead of Buddhist artwork from this period. She wears an ornate crown, jewelry, finely decorated, flowing robes, and large earrings. A lotus flower flanks her upper arms and shoulders, and she sits in half lotus position on a lotus throne, her hands in a mudra. Quan Yin is the goddess of mercy and compassion, and her name is short for "Perceiving the Cries of the World". In this figure, her face radiates a calm gentleness that will put you at peace. Size: 12" H x 8" W x 6" L (30-1/2 cm x 20 cm x 15 cm).
