Description:

East Asia, China, late Ming Dynasty, ca. 17th century CE. A beautiful wheel-thrown porcelain plate depicting a lovely fish in royal blue hues with red cross hatching over the body, the piscine form surrounded by decorative blue motifs that resemble kelp or some other form of seaweed. This general design first appeared in the Yuan dynasty. The exterior walls are all adorned with the same creamy white ground hue and tastefully embellished with three loose blue squiggles. The base is unfinished but signed in black. Size: 8.5" in diameter (21.6 cm)
