Description:

East Asia, China, late Ming Dynasty, ca. 17th century CE. A beautiful wheel-thrown porcelain plate depicting a lovely fish in cobalt blue hues with red cross hatching over the body, the piscine form surrounded by decorative cobalt blue motifs that resemble kelp or some other form of seaweed. This general design first appeared in the Yuan dynasty. The exterior walls are all adorned with the same creamy white ground hue and tastefully embellished with three loose blue brushstrokes. The base is unfinished. Size: 8.5" in diameter (21.6 cm)
