Lot 68B
China, Ming Dynasty, 1368 to 1644 CE. A tall mold-made figure wearing green glazed-robes and a tall hat. His head is detachable and he stands atop a tiered hexagonal pedestal. The face is unpainted but detailed and naturalistic. Size: 4.05" L x 5.25" W x 15.7" H (10.3 cm x 13.3 cm x 39.9 cm)
Hundreds of pottery figures like these were placed into tombs during the Ming period. These objects appeal to us because they are a window to the past, showing us the clothing styles and artistic activities of a society distant to us.
