Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. An outstanding green-glazed funerary ceramic inspired by traditional Chinese architecture with influences extending back to the Han Dynasty, a piece that was probably intended for the tomb of a wealthy individual. In conjunction with literary records, house models like this provide valuable information about Chinese architecture from this early time period. So funerary edifices like this example, in addition to providing an understanding of early Chinese belief in an afterlife, also tell us much about the architecture and technology of the period.
