Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A beautiful cast leaded-bronze dancer figure, parcel gilt with gold and painted with red (mercury) pigments. The woman has idealized features and hair pulled up elegantly and robes draped over her body and arms outstretched with billowing sleeves. The long sleeves were in fashion during this period and the movements of the sleeves played a role in dances, a costume style that is still used today in Chinese opera. Bronze figurines are much rarer than their pottery counterparts. Size: 4.5" L x 2.5" W x 8.75" H (11.4 cm x 6.4 cm x 22.2 cm); gold quality: 19.6% to 29.2% (equivalent to 4K+ to 7K)
