East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A cast-bronze mirror of circular form with a raised central suspension loop that doubles as a sitting lion with an incised mane. The feline creature is surrounded by 4 additional abstract creatures, perhaps felines, as well as with foliate forms and grape bunches as well as birds and insects around the exterior decorative band. Size: 4.3" Diameter x 0.3" H (10.9 cm x 0.8 cm)

Provenance: private Sylmer, California, USA collection, acquired via descent, originally collected in Asia in the 1950s
