Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A gorgeous pale green glazed vessel with a gold kintsugi repair around the neck. The vessel has a tall, cylindrical body with gently sloping shoulders, a narrow, conical neck, and a mouth that widens into a broad disc with a rolled rim. Two fish-shaped handles are attached to the sides of the neck, their bodies arched, with their mouths open, as if about to swallow the neck. Gold has been used to repair several breaks around the neck and rim, as shown in the photographs. Kintsugi is known as the "art of precious scars" and originated in Japan.
