Description:

East Asia, China, Neolithic period, Longshan culture, ca. 2500 to 2000 BCE. A finely hand-carved and polished nephrite stone pendant with a highly abstract face on both sides. The stone has a perforation at the top for suspension, and below are three incised grooves, possibly to represent a headdress. The face is delineated with incised features, such as circular eyes, nose, and brows. The stone's surface is a smooth and of a mottled green with creamy white inclusions.
