Description:

East Asia, China, Republic era, ca. 20th century CE. A remarkable nephrite jade carving of a mythical Pixiu, a powerful dragon-lion hybrid, with a smaller "cub" perched on its back. Striding forward with its head raised and fanged mouth open, this creature is a symbol of protection, wealth, and good fortune in Chinese culture. The presence of a smaller Pixiu atop its back emphasizes the multiplication of wealth and prosperity, as it is believed to enhance the talismanic power of the figure. When backlit, the jade emits a luminous glow, particularly through the dense chest area, revealing the stone's inner brilliance and quality. Size: 4.5" L x 1.75" W x 3.25" H (11.4 cm x 4.4 cm x 8.3 cm)
