Description:

East Asia, China, Shang to Western Zhou Dynasty, ca. 1600 to 771 BCE. A finely carved jadeite plaque depicting a dragon or a bixi with a sinuous body incised with incised scrolling features. By the Shang Dynasty, jade carving had been a central tradition in Chinese culture for over 2,000 years, often symbolizing power, protection, and spiritual connection. In Chinese mythology, dragons were revered as symbols of imperial authority, fertility, and cosmic order. The bixie is also a mythical creature believed to possess magical abilities that can repel evil forces. The stone is a pale, semi-translucent mottled white and sage-green hue that glows when backlit.
