Description:

East Asia, China / Japan, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE; Central Europe, Austria, ca. 1900s CE. A petite jar carved from elephant ivory and etched across the surface with crosshatching and a rooster with a hen on one side, and lotus / lily pads on the other. The second container is a cylindrical needle case made of celluloid in the form of a monkey in a top hat with glass bead eyes. The body is threaded at the center and twists opens easily; "Austria" is stamped on the base. Size of ivory jar: 2.6" Diameter x 2.75" H (6.6 cm x 7 cm)

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece was made prior to 1972.

  • Condition: Austrian needle case it intact with some minor nicks. Base on ivory jar is not flush with side / where adhesive binder is missing. Small fissure to base center. Rest is intact and light mineral deposits on interior.
