Description:

Ancient East Asia, China, Hongshan culture, ca. 4700 to 2900 BCE. The ovoid insect lays recumbent with six retracted legs incised beneath the body and a broad wing carapace in relief atop the segmented upper body. A pair of hemispherical eyes bulge out above incised front feelers and imbue the amulet with an insectile presentation characteristic of Hongshan zoomorphic lapidary artistry.
