China, ca. 206 BCE - 220 CE. A fine large example of a green-glazed wine ewer, with cylindrical base that tapers to a wide body, and back to a slightly flared cylindrical neck. On either side of vessel are Taotie mask pseudo-handles. Two sets of four parallel rings across center and at base of neck. Tripod "firing feet" on base. Bubbled masses of glaze throughout vessel, specifically around top of rim and on side. Glaze varies from light to dark green, giving it almost a marbled appearance. Beautiful iridescence. 16"H.
