Description:

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A pair of mold-made ceramic archers with their arms raised, ready to release an arrow. The figures are stylized and formed from the waist up, with flowing garments and sleeves. Both of their right arms are drawn back, holding the string steady and the left arm is raised to support the bow. One retains a good portion of the bow. The surfaces of each are covered with a dark, green glaze. These attendants were created to protect and serve the deceased in the afterlife. Size: 2.125" W x 3" H (5.4 cm x 7.6 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection acquired in 1980's
