Description:

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. An incredible belt buckle of a slender, tendril-like form that is cast from leaded-bronze and adorned with fine layers of gilding. The sweeping, crescent-shaped clothing accessory features a rounded topside with one upturned end as well as an integral discoid button along the bottom. Incised along the top is an intricate curvilinear motif comprised of circles, flower petals, and spiraled forms, and the gilding emphasizes certain areas while forming a solid horizontal stripe across the midsection. Mottled brown, russet, and green patina envelop the entire buckle and create an enticing presentation. Size: 5.1" L x 0.6" W (13 cm x 1.5 cm); 2.4" H (6.1 cm) on included custom stand.
