Description:

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. early 20th century CE. An ornate tea caddy storage container cast from pewter with repousse decorations with lithograph paper inserts under glass- printed scenes of traditionally dressed women in a garden and viewing a scroll inside a room. The underside of the pewter body is stamped with Chinese characters for the pewtersmith and material. The tea caddy rests on 4 feet and a circular lid with a rim fits snugly into the caddy's mouth and over the rim of the opening. Tea was valuable and often stored in protective canisters or caddies such as this example to protect the leaves from humidity. Size: 4.3" L x 2.125" W x 6.75" H (10.9 cm x 5.4 cm x 17.1 cm)
