Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 700 to 1470 CE. A hand-woven textile sash made from camelid fibers, perhaps alpaca or llama, using the double weave technique - the reverse face coloration is opposite from the obverse. The lengthy piece is complete with finished edges, so perhaps worn draped over shoulders, wrapped around a waist, or head. Ancient Peru has one of the richest weaving traditions in the world, garments were usually made from luxurious camelid wool that came from one of the four species (in order of wool quality and fineness) vicuna, guanacos, alpaca, or llama. As llamas and alpacas are domesticated from the wild vicuna and guanacos, they were more commonly used. Size: 68" L x 6.5" W (172.7 cm x 16.5 cm)
