Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu, ca. 1250 to 1450 CE. A hand-carved wooden staff with a perched, animated wild cat finial crouching on four bent legs atop a pedestal, its long tail wrapped around the pedestal and curled at the terminus, an expressive visage boasting round, bulging eyes, incised whiskers, and jagged teeth, and a shaft open slit beneath this figural finial. Nice dark patina. Custom stand. Size: 19" H (48.3 cm); 19.375" H (49.2 cm) with stand.
