Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chimu, Chan Chan type, ca. 1000 CE. A rare example of a tall, hand-carved wooden idol depicting a female Venus standing nude atop an integral column. The woman presents holding her arms atop her abdomen with pendulous breasts and rounded shoulders above, and her broad visage bears ovoid eyes, a bar-shaped nose, and a gaping mouth. Faint remains of red pigment on the face indicate this figure was elaborately decorated at one time. Size: 1.9" L x 4.25" W x 18.6" H (4.8 cm x 10.8 cm x 47.2 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010
