Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-carved wooden ear plug bearing a frontal disc adorned in dozens of colorful feathers in hues of coral, wheat, gold, and periwinkle. Illustrated on the center with feathers is an abstract mask, perhaps a funerary mask, with a tumi-shaped headdress and a pair of large, circular earspools. Additional feathers cover much of the plug end in color as well. Size: 1.67" L x 2.24" W x 2.28" H (4.2 cm x 5.7 cm x 5.8 cm); 4.6" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
