Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A large fragment of a textile panel, perhaps once part of a tunic shirt woven from beige cotton with brown and black supplementary embroidery of camelid wool from alpaca or llama. The motifs above the tassel hem consist of an open-weave stepped pattern, solid band, and a register of highly stylized creatures, perhaps fish with fin like tails and curvilinear limbs. Size: 27" L x 14" W (68.6 cm x 35.6 cm)
