Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A mold-formed duck vessel from ancient Peru. The highly burnished surfaces exhibit a pleasant russet hue that is adorned with faint, black-painted linear motifs along the lower body. The conical head features bullseye-form eyes and a thick beak while a stirrup-shaped handle - surmounted by a petite monkey - projects from the top of the back. Size: 8.125" L x 4.875" W x 8.6" H (20.6 cm x 12.4 cm x 21.8 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to head of duck, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Slit perforations along body, with abrasions and fading to pigment, and softening to some finer details, otherwise in nice condition. Good preservation to avian and simian forms.
