Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. This well-preserved textile panel is an example of openwork and slit-tapestry weaving techniques made from camelid (alpaca or llama) wool in earthen brown hues and brighter red, blue, and ochre. Two abstract anthropomorphic beings and four birds are woven into the panel using an open weave technique that creates slits outlining their bodies. Size of textile: 10.25" L x 7" W (26 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: private Plano, Texas, USA collection, inherited from father in the 1990's
