Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 900 to 1450 CE. A finely carved llama bone drug spatula, both aesthetically and iconographically intriguing. Atop the rhythmic pattern of diagonal bands of incised concentric circles separated via incised striations is an unfortunate prisoner of war carved in low relief and presenting a dramatic silhouette - kneeling with hands bound behind his back, donning a shirt or tunic adorned with a circular pattern that matches that of the spatula below, his profile visage embellished with inlaid blue turquoise eyes and round white shell ear ornaments. Custom stand. Size: 1.25" W x 6.124" H (3.2 cm x 15.6 cm); 6.875" H (17.5 cm) on stand
