Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu/Inca culture, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. This brightly-colored textile strap fragment is comprised of tightly-woven fibers in cream, aqua, and crimson hues. The composition is formed from a long band of abstract and interlocking geometric fish figures with small bands of red fibers conjoining the top and bottom halves. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 17" L x 0.375" W (43.2 cm x 1 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
