Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu Inca, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. An expressive blackware pottery vessel depicting the head of an elderly subject with many incised wrinkles betraying his advanced age; adding to this visage are his small coffee bean shaped eyes, a straight bony protruding nose, an open toothless mouth, and pronounced cup-shaped ears. The vessel rests upon a concave base, and a tall conical spout emerges from the top of the head; a bifurcated handle joins the lower end of the spout with the back of the head. A lovely blackware vessel from the indigenous of ancient Peru, impressive for its artistry, technical prowess, and intriguing imagery! Size: 6.5" W (chin to handle) x 8.625" H (16.5 cm x 21.9 cm)
