Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu-Inca, ca. 1100 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery stirrup vessel of a spherical, round-bottomed form illustrated with red-orange pigment atop a cream ground. The body is decorated with a zigzagging register above a program of cresting waves, and a petite avian creature rests atop the parabolic handle with its beak touching the cylindrical spout. Size: 4.9" Diameter x 8.25" H (12.4 cm x 21 cm)

  • Condition: Abrasions and light fading to pigment across body and handle, with small chips to spout rim, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment on top half of body. Old inventory number written in graphite beneath base.
