Description:

Pre-Columbian, central coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-built grayware pottery jar of a broad form. The vessel features a ring-shaped foot with dozens of incised notches, a spherical body with a central carination, a sloped shoulder, and a gently tapered spout. Adorning the shoulder are trios of vertical lines with teardrop-shaped 'heads' within inverted, U-shaped arches, perhaps representative of figures in a boat, with pairs of horizontal bars in-between that perhaps represent flowing water. An intriguing example from ancient Peru! Size: 6.25" W x 7.375" H (15.9 cm x 18.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
