Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic figure of highly stylized form bearing incised details on the hands and face. The oversized head and undecorated body suggests this was perhaps a child's play toy that could be dressed in different outfits, and the perforations on each shoulder suggest it was perhaps used similarly to a puppet. Size: 2.875" W x 7" H (7.3 cm x 17.8 cm); 7.375" H (18.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired before 2004; ex-private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, acquired in the 1950s and 1960s
