Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A petite amulet, carved from milky white shell, depicting a stylized pelican with a slender body, a tapering neck, and a pair of wings folded against the stippled abdomen. The head boasts a pair of drilled eyes, a feathered crest on top, and thin horizontal striations delineating each half of the beak. Size: 1" W x 1.2" H (2.5 cm x 3 cm).
