Description:

Pre-Columbian, coastal Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. An attractive blackware jar with a bulbous, apple-shaped body surmounted by a long, cylindrical neck and a flared rim. The sloped shoulder features relief decoration of 4 jaguar-headed anthropomorphic figures, each grasping a trophy head in one hand and a war club in the other as a feline-headed serpent extends from the bottom of one foot. The figures appear to be flying with their legs bent behind them as they raise both arms and turn their large heads to the right. Size: 8.7" Diameter x 10.7" H (22.1 cm x 27.2 cm)
