Description:

Pre-Columbian, central coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A remarkable blackware vessel presenting an ovoid form with a rounded shoulder, a narrow, cylindrical neck, and a circular, flared rim, all sitting upon a slightly convex base. An avian head projects from the shoulder on one side, displaying a target-motif eye and an elongated, curved beak that dually functions as a handle, with a risen area below the head, representing the bird's wings. The neck of the ancient vessel is additionally adorned by a relief wave motif and flanked by a pair of petite loops for suspension. Size: 5.625" L x 4" W x 8.5" H (14.3 cm x 10.2 cm x 21.6 cm)
