Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, central coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A beautiful, hand-built blackware pottery vessel with a pair of carinated spherical chambers connected with a narrow central joint below and a bridge handle above. The highly burnished surfaces of each chamber are incised with linear and stippled motifs that create a mesmerizing presentation. Projecting from atop the frontal chamber is a stylized avian head with a conical beak, seed-form eyes, and a tone hole on top. The tone hole creates a high-pitched sound when air is blown into the cylindrical spout emanating from the back chamber. Size: 7.7" L x 3.75" W x 5.3" H (19.6 cm x 9.5 cm x 13.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010; ex-Lost World Artifacts, Acworth, Georgia, USA
