Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. This is a very classic Chimu-style stirrup jar, fired into a dark black ware and depicting the head of a lord with earrings and a headdress that ends in a spout. Geometric, pyramidal designs that call to mind mountains and/or waves decorate the upper body. Size: 7" W x 8.5" H (17.8 cm x 21.6 cm)
