Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A gorgeous mold-formed pottery vessel of spherical form featuring a wide flared spout and a petite handle. Adorned in a deep hue of taupe, this ancient vessel is beautifully embellished with a recessed horizontal register of two birds and two fish in relief on a dotted band. A ribbed horseshoe-shape protrudes from below the spout, perhaps acting as a stop, so the vessel will not tip over and pour out its contents. Size: 5" in diameter x 5" H (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired 1980s-1990s
