Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A lovely mold-formed and highly-burnished blackware pottery vessel with a flat base, a circular body with a projecting midsection, a rounded shoulder, a thick, stirrup-shaped handle, and a tapering cylindrical spout. The top of the shoulder exhibits highly-stylized zoomorphic figures in two semicircular sections, one with a large standing monkey, and the other with a scorpion, a miniature bird, a more-elaborate bird with a crested head plume. Two abstract bird heads protrude from the base of each handle terminal, and a tiny monkey grasps the side of the spout. Size: 6.625" W x 9.25" H (16.8 cm x 23.5 cm).
