Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, 900 to 200 BCE. A fine heavy greenstone carved figure of a lord, a man with a wide nose and large mouth below drilled eyes; he holds some kind of rectangular tablet and his head is covered in a cowl. The figure has fine details, including individual fingers and toes. The Chavin people lived in the northern Highland Andes, and their capital, Chavin de Huantar, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The artwork of Chavin represents the first widespread style in the Andes. Size: 2.4" W x 3.6" H (6.1 cm x 9.1 cm)
