Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 500 BCE. A hand-carved stone cup with a flat base, tall walls, and a thick rim surrounding a deep interior cavity. The exterior of the vessel boasts intricately incised details which form a quartet of abstract zoomorphic heads exhibiting saurian-like details. The abstract presentation shows each pair of heads facing each other with grimacing mouths and piercing eyes, and vertical helix-form columns separate each snarling face from the other. Size: 3.2" W x 3.8" H (8.1 cm x 9.7 cm).
