Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 1200 to 500 BCE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel of bulbous form depicting a stylized condor. The charming bird stands atop petite feet and features incised wings and tail atop the upper half of the apple-shaped vessel, all rubbed with cinnabar pigment that stands out against the chocolate brown pottery; an additional, highly abstract glyph is incised on the back of the vessel. A rectangular stirrup-shaped handle rises from the back of the condor and is centered with a gently corseted spout. Size: 6.875" W x 11.2" H (17.5 cm x 28.4 cm)
