Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, most likely Chavin, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. A striking necklace comprised of 34 translucent, hand-cut, hand-polished, biconically drilled, rounded quartz crystal beads with silver spacer beads. All beads are ancient, strung in modern times, and with a modern silver clasp. Rock crystal finds from the Chavin period are fascinating. Some researchers believe that rock crystal beads just like these show that the Chavin had developed the ability to shape convex lenses, perhaps for magnification or fire starting. In this case, the beautiful beads make for a breathtaking piece of wearable art! Size: 18" L (45.7 cm); largest beads measure ~ .625" in diameter (1.6 cm)

  • Condition: All beads are ancient, strung in modern times, and with a modern silver clasp. A few quartz beads with internal pressure fissures. Only slight surface wear otherwise. Silver beads show a nice age patina - a few with minute fissures, indentations, and nicks, but otherwise very good.
